Interior Minister opens 3rd Somalia Mayors Forum in Mogadishu

Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E Ali Yusuf Ali Hosh, today officially opened the 3rd Somalia Mayors Forum in Mogadishu. In his opening remarks, Minister Hosh emphasized that mayors and district administrations are the frontline responders to the challenges facing communities across Somalia. From drought and environmental shocks to displacement, resource-based disputes, and local conflicts, local authorities are often the first to respond, coordinate assistance, and support affected populations. “Empowering local governments is not a policy choice; it is the foundation of service delivery, development, and democratic participation,” Minister Ali Hosh said. The Minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening local governance and decentralization, calling on participants to use the forum to share experiences, strengthen cooperation, and advance practical solutions that build more resilient districts and better serve Somali communities.
