Constitutional Review Commission Issues Directive on Official Use of Somalia’s National Flag

Mogadishu (SONNA) – The Chairperson of the Independent Constitutional Review and Implementation Commission (ICRIC), Burhaan Aadan Cumar, has issued a directive reaffirming the official specifications for Somalia’s national flag, emblem, and anthem.
In a press statement issued under the Commission’s constitutional mandate as outlined in Chapter 15 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Somalia (2026), the Chairperson noted that the national flag and emblem have been widely used in incorrect colors, leading to confusion over their official appearance.
The Commission directed all government institutions, Somali citizens, and any individuals or entities using the national flag and emblem to adhere strictly to the official color specified in Schedule One (A) and Schedule One (B) of the Constitution. The approved light blue color is designated as Hex Code #B5D7F1 with RGB values (181, 215, 241).
The statement also reaffirmed that the official and complete version of Somalia’s national anthem is the one contained in Schedule One (C) of the Constitution.
The Commission warned that any institution or official found misusing the national flag, emblem, or anthem will be subject to legal action in accordance with the laws of the country.
Furthermore, all federal and federal member state government offices were instructed to display the national flag at their premises in compliance with constitutional requirements.
